Terms of Service

Last updated: April 2026

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of the Contento marketing website at contento.sh (the "Site"). The Contento command-line tool itself is free of charge but proprietary; its terms are governed by the Contento Free Use License in the source repository's LICENSE file. Use of any Contento Pro feature is additionally governed by the Pro Subscription Agreement. The free tier of the CLI runs entirely on your machine; Pro Team and White-Glove additionally use a hosted dashboard at app.contento.sh.

1. Acceptance

By browsing or using the Site, you agree to these Terms and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Site. The Contento CLI is governed separately by the Free Use License in the source repository's LICENSE file; downloading or using the CLI constitutes acceptance of that license. Contento Pro features are governed by the Pro Subscription Agreement.

2. The Contento CLI

Contento is a programmatic SEO command-line tool, distributed at no cost under the Contento Free Use License (see LICENSE in the source repository). Its core capabilities include:

  • AI-powered content generation using schema-validated JSON structures and niche-specific context, executed on your machine via your own AI provider key (BYOK).
  • A command-line interface for managing projects, niches, schemas, collections, generation, publishing, and build steps locally.
  • Local static HTML rendering with on-domain output paths for your own site.
  • Optional Google Search Console integration via local OAuth, with analytics cached locally.
  • Progressive publishing with batched rollout, quality gates, and internal linking, all performed locally.
  • Agent-friendly --json output and built-in MCP support.

The CLI is distributed under the Contento Free Use License from the npm registry and the project's source repository. We may publish updated versions, deprecate APIs, or change defaults; older versions remain available under their published license terms.

3. Your Responsibilities

You are responsible for:

  • Securing the AI provider keys you configure with the CLI (OpenAI, Anthropic, etc.). The CLI stores them locally; if your machine is compromised, the keys are at risk.
  • Complying with the terms of service of any AI provider you configure. Any costs you incur with that provider are between you and them.
  • The content the CLI generates on your behalf and any pages you publish to your own domain. You are the publisher.
  • Ensuring that your use of the CLI complies with applicable laws (defamation, IP, data protection, search engine guidelines).

4. Acceptable Use of the Site

You agree not to use the Site to:

  • Violate any applicable law or third-party rights.
  • Distribute malware, viruses, or other harmful code.
  • Attempt to gain unauthorized access to the Site or its hosting infrastructure.
  • Scrape the Site at a volume that disrupts service for others.

5. Intellectual Property

The Site content (copy, design, marketing assets), the Contento CLI source code, and the Contento Pro packs are the property of the Contento maintainers. The CLI is licensed for free use under the Free Use License (no redistribution, no modification); see the LICENSE file in the source repository for the full terms.

The "Contento" name and logo may not be used in a way that suggests endorsement of, affiliation with, or official status of a third-party product or fork without written permission.

6. No Warranty & Limitation of Liability

THE SITE AND THE CONTENTO CLI ARE PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING WITHOUT LIMITATION IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT.

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, IN NO EVENT WILL THE CONTENTO MAINTAINERS BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES — INCLUDING LOSS OF PROFITS, DATA, OR GOODWILL — ARISING OUT OF OR RELATING TO YOUR USE OF THE SITE OR THE CLI.

7. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the United Kingdom, without regard to its conflict of law principles. Any dispute will be resolved in the courts of England and Wales.

8. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms as the project evolves. The "Last updated" date at the top reflects the most recent revision. Continued use of the Site after a revision constitutes acceptance.
